Welcome to the Communication and Interaction Centre
The C and I Centre is now complete after the installation of the sensory room and safe space. Many thanks to St James’ Place for their help with this!
The children love coming in here to relax and explore; there are so many different effects we can create, which can be adapted for each child’s taste and sensory needs.
This term we have been learning all about people who help us. The children have explored in the role play area, looking at lots of different jobs and how they each help us in our lives.
The children really enjoyed pretending to be fire fighters for the day when the local fire brigade came to visit. They learnt all about how fire fighters work and the importance of their clothes. They also learnt how to keep themselves safe.
Following this, the children learned about paramedics, doctors and nurses. They loved helping all the patients to get better, writing forms and notes about their care, and what they did to help them.
The children also worked hard at developing their social skills, working together to help care for their patients, taking it in turns and communicating through their play which was lovely to see!
Alongside this, in science the children were amazed when they met Billy, and learned all about the different bones in the body.
They wrote labels to identify the different bones, and were intrigued by the different organs and their functions.
Since half term, the children have been looking at refuse collectors and recycling. The children have been exploring different materials, sorting and recycling them, whilst learning about how recycling can help the environment.
The children worked really well, planning, designing and building their own junk models after looking at all the amazing things we can make with recycled materials. They were very proud of their inventions and creations!
Our final few weeks of this theme will focus on vets and zoo keepers. We will be visiting Bristol Zoo so the children can see all the animals and learn how they are each cared for differently. Fingers crossed they will have an amazing day!
