Introduction to Chesterton Primary School

Chesterton Primary School is a single-form primary school for 210 children. From the 1st September 2015, it opened its doors to Gloucestershire County Councils fifth, purpose built Communication & Interaction Centre for 10 children. The Centre will offer support to children with severe to profound difficulties in the areas of Language and Communication on the Autism Spectrum.

Nursery Space 22015 was also the year that the School and its Governors took over the management and running of the on-site Nursery & Preschool known as “Busy Bees”.  Incorporating wrap around care from 8.00 am to 6.00 pm, 51 weeks of the year, the setting continues to grow from strength and strength and is an integral part of the fabric of our school.

These opportunities mean our parents can feel reassured that their children will be taught in single aged classes appropriate for their age and skill set from ages 2-11. We are working hard to create a supportive, family-oriented community school and if you walk into any part of the school you will see the same high quality teaching and learning environment for all the children.

LibraryBecause we believe that in order for a school to be successful, it must be child centred. We have nurtured a strong sense of partnership between the school and the family, and this lies at the heart of the children’s happiness and success. Chesterton Primary School is an exciting place to be, and there is always something happening to enhance an already enriched curriculum. It is not unusual to see the staff and children dressed up as Harry Potter for World Book Day, visiting our on- site Forest School area, playing on our trim trail or perhaps wearing their home made aprons for Art & DT. These events bring the curriculum to life and make learning fun for everyone.

Our school site is spacious and with this brings opportunities for our children in the form of a generously stocked Library where children are encouraged to read to our wonderful team of Volunteers as well as take books home to support their reading. Our comprehensive IT Strategy has enabled the school to a have dedicated IT Suite and our long term plan is to ensure that the school has enough PCs and IPads for every child to use one in their lessons.  IT can then be taught in a dedicated suite or in their classroom where technology is also linked to the Smart board in every teaching room.

HallIn addition to these spaces, we have a wonderful school Hall where children are encouraged to take part in plays both during Assembly through “Open the Book” and at special times of the year including Christmas.

The Hall is a popular place as it is also home to our In-House catering team who produce healthy and nutritious lunchtime meals. If that wasn’t all, the School recently built a “Learning Enrichment Centre” with a grant from the National Lottery. This building currently houses the school library as well as a fully stocked kitchen for The Friends of Chesterton Primary School to use for school and Community Activities.
